I FIGURED IT OUT!

Hullo ladies!

well, I am sitting here in limbo. between the time when I eat a big bowl of cereal and motivate myself to go run, so what better thing to do than write to you!

Let's see. Montana. It is nice being home. It really is. I got off the train and my parents kidnapped me to go bike riding in Glacier Park. I there named my bicycle Oberlin after one of the peaks in the park. A couple days later I went kayaking with two of my best friends from home and we played in the sand of this place on Flathead Lake that everyone calls Africa. Let me tell you, kayaks are SLOOOWW! Now, my parents are in Boston at my brother's graduation and visiting family (I decided to stay behind because I wanted to be home) but already I am tired of having the house to myself. The dishes are piled up and our hot water heater broke. Damn.

Exercise (since everyone is commenting on it): I've been running almost daily, and when I don't a do this african dance aerobics video. I don't have a gym membership this summer so lifting is not existent. nor is erging. Am I a bad person? I start my Glacier Park boat captaincy June 2nd, I hope to run there as well as go on backpacking trips for my fitness lifestyle.

I am driving to Seattle on Thursday for a free music festival called FOLKLIFE!!! I'm so excited and will be thinking of our lovely ladies at nationals all the time! If you were still in Tacoma I would come visit. Although there are enough of you still there (Kayla, Irene) that I may drop by anyway well, I'm gonna get started on this run/core stuff. Guess that means I should put on a bra. ha ha

Well since everyone else is doing it

it's 10 pm
i'm sitting on my couch
in a towel
watching tv

and i'm pretty sure my legs might just fall off :) in a good way
to lindsay and katie and possibly anyone else. i'm sorry for the text you received saturday night. I was drinking some smoothies and things just got crazy :D but don't worry everyone if you didn't get one last time i'm sure you all shall be receiving drunk texts at some point this summer.

But i didn't let that stop me! because today god what did i do???
three hour work out in the gym. that was awful, but so very rewarding!
erged for the first time this summer (can't say i missed it that much, but there will be far more to come) I have never appreciated how very nice the ergs we have at school are. I think the ones I am using have been around since the dawn of time, and a brontosaurs made the foot straps lose. anyway it wasn't a big erg so me and katie ( my friend since kindergarden and a rower at Lewis&Clark) went on a 6 mile run with one of the best runners from my high school Werner. which was a huge thing for me personally.
and then... well that just wasn't' enough so how about some lifting to finish us off

i think it was an attempted suicide but totally worth it and hey I made it out of the pain cave :)
that is pretty much what my summer has consisted of and what they will consist of until I re-ROOH-nited with all of you

It has not been the same since we have been gone
I mean I'm use to working out with Katie from soccer stuff, but crew work outs... like you guys (espeically coxswains) know what works with me and what doesn't
and between everyone reading our blogs my friend kaite isn't a great coxswain :P

anyway I'm doing my best to stay motivated for not only me but for you guys
and let me be the first tos ay that I AM SO EXCITED FOR EVERYONE GOING TO NATIONALS! AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS ON FUCKING TELEVISION!!!!!! HOW INSANELY COOL IS THAT...
maybe it's just because i'm from alaska and getting on tv is a HUGE deal... but i am like SOOOOOOOO EXCITED TO SEE SOMEONE I KNOW ON TV AND FOR YOU GUYS TO KICK SOME SERIOUS ASS!!!!!!
OHHHHH GOD NOW I'M REALLY PUMPED AND MY HEART IS ALL FAST AND STUFF
PEACE AND BLESSINS
AND OF COURSE
ROOH

Hi!!!!

Hi guys! I miss you all and I am so happy that Lindsay has brilliantly created this blog! It is nice to hear what you are up to-- Irene, I am impressed with your studly backpacking adventures, and Toni, Lindsay, Kayla, Jovia, etc. I am impressed with your goals/bike rides/fitness. Reading about what you have to say is keepin' me motivated throughout my own workouts.

It has been beautiful here in California. I have just been enjoying the sun/mexican food/beach since I have been home while preparing to leave to work at a camp on June 1st. I have surfed twice since I've been home, and I've gone on several beach runs. I have also gone to this hilarious dance class that a local yoga studio offers. It's called "Nia" and it integrates a ton of dance styles. Initially, I thought that I was showing up for a yoga class, but I was very surprised when a flamboyant instructor with his head-mike walked in and ordered us to start doing "shimmies." Although my friends and I have had a difficult time controlling our laughter ( we are easily the youngest people in the class), it has actually been a nice, fun supplement to my tougher workouts. I can't wait to show you guys some of my new moves-- all you have to do is ask ;).

Anyways, I got a camera today so I should be able to post some pics from the camp where I will be working at soon. I'll be there all summer, but I have about four days off between each week-long session consecutively throughout the summer so I have planned some trips. I hope to stay with Lindsey in Santa Monica for a weekend, and I'll also be going on a four-day backpacking trip with my best friend, her dad, and my dad in mammoth in August. My friend is getting married in June (soooo exciting) so I'm pumped for that, and I'll also be taking a trip up to San Francisco between sessions.

That was a lot of writing--sorry. Love you and keep me updated!

ROOH without yOOH...

is not quite rooh at all :(

Despite the fact that Katie, Lindsay, and I (Kenzie) really miss you all, we're trying to have a good time (and succeeding for the most part). This is our schedule:

5:15am - Wake up in the morning feeling like p-diddy
5:30 - Brush our teeth with a bottle of jack
5:40 - Fieldhouse
6 - Practice
9 - Return
9:30 - Eat
movies, online television, facebook stalk
12 - Eat
movies, online television, facebook stalk
12 - Eat
6 - Eat
movies, online television, facebook stalk
12 - Eat
9pm - Sleepy time, she comes
REPEAT!

Obviously, it's a very riveting schedule/life we've got going on (that would be much better with you guys!). Anywho, we've got one more practice tomorrow and then we're shipping out to sacramento wednesday morning!

For those of you haven't heard, Katie and Hannah are officially racing in a pair! They (especially Katie) are scared shitless, despite Marsa describing the race as "fun." They have one more practice at home (hopefully- if Becky can come...) and they're hoping to get up to full slide tomorrow! Because a half slide "spare pair" race wouldn't necessarily be "fun" (hahahahhaha). Needless to say, it should be interesting :)

I've been riding in the launch for the most part, but I did get to cox the cran beaut and the rooh!! I'm learning a lot in the launch, but i'm still not a fan of the cold and rain (obviously...). Both Ashley and I are going to get cox evals soon, and depending on the results one of us will be chosen to be the alternate and the other will go as a team manager. I'll keep you posted :) Other than that, it's just really funny to hear marsa's "launch talk" as she calls it, because she swears a lot and its just hilarious. I MISS YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!

LINDSAY HERE, so it's been quite a whirlwind, emotionally and... the other kind? Haha. Emotional challenges: being away from everyone... completely! Not just for practice like it was before... It's quite hard. But, having the other ex-novies here has been great. Mariah and I are in the Rooh, she's 7-seat and I'm 2-seat (we're each other's opposite!). Kenzie did a great job coxing the Cran Beaut when I was in it, and the Rooh as well. Yeah, that's right, I rowed in the CB for a few practices.. we were doing mixed boats so everyone got to feel what it was like; and it was EPIC. I loved it. But I love the Rooh, it's a really great boat and we all work really well together. It's been amazing.
I feel so stir crazy! Marsa doesn't want us to do any extraneous workouts, so we're gonna go walk around the mall in a bit. Get FroYo and shtuff. Yeah, be jealous. But I get to go home Saturday night. That's another crazy thing... We'll be done done with the season THIS Saturday. I know you all must be feeling it already... that weird vacancy.. the void! I'm def not looking forward to Sunday... it's gonna be WEIRD. Roohly Weird. BUT, as said earlier, one last practice tomorrow! and then SACRAMENTO BOUND! (In bball we used to call it Mento, hah!) So yeah.. California, here we comeeeee. Apparently it'll be live on NCAA.com (somewhere...)
LOVE YOU ALL.

BREAKING NEWS!!!
Kenzie just told me it'll be on TV: June 19! "at like 4 pm" BE THERE.

Here's Katie:

Well.... I do not have Lindsay's way with words, but I thought I'd chime in give my 2¢. But to sum it all up Kenzie's been launchin' it up, Lindsay's been Rooh'n it up, and I've been ergin' it up. Oo ya. Erika always talked about how there is just a different feeling on Varsity- the bubbles, the boat run and such (which is true, I was in the Rooh one day) but there is a difference erging on Varsity too. Eh. But it's been good. It's cool to have new and interesting workouts! (Sense the excitement)

Anyhoo, text me on Thursday sometime and I will compile a text list to send live updates from Nat's! (Kenzie will have to take over for my race)

Well the world of wonders we call the Tacoma Mall is calling to us. A Woo Woo!

Miss You Loads,
Kalinzatie

Adventures!

Hi Lovelies!

It seems so long ago that we were all together, and I miss you all! It's so weird that it was just a few weeks ago that we were in California, and things already seem really different (not necessarily in a bad or good way, just a different way).

Anywho. I just got back from my four day backpacking trip for Outdoor Leadership Experience (a.k.a. making fitness a part of my identity), and I had a total blast. We hiked on the gorgeous coast off of the Olympic National Park, navigating tide crossings, climbing over huge rocks, and scurrying up ladders on the sides of cliffs. I shared sleeping bags with Gerad and some other lovely people, cooked chocolate chip pancakes in the rain, and ended up getting evaluated as a primary leader (the highest rating) for PSO and Passages trips next year. This means that I will be hounding you all to come on my trips next year!!!

I'm squatting in one of the nationals training houses with Hannah, Mariah, and Kenzie currently until my lease starts in June, and tomorrow I start working full time at Admissions, so my summer schedule will begin in earnest next week, when I move into my house. For now, I sort of feel like I'm in limbo, and I've had very little time for anything personal (before OLE I had a three day Wilderness First Aid course that took up a ton of time), but I'm ready to start outlining goals and getting into a routine for the summer, so here are my goals:

1) Complete a sprint triathlon (hopefully in August with Kenzie!)
2) Do something active every day (even if it's just a quick bike ride or walk down to the water)
3) Run, erg, or do something equally physically demanding five days a week
4) Cook a lot, and cook healthy
5) Go on an outdoors trip every 2-3 weeks

Well, I love and miss you all and hoep that you're all having wonderful starts to your summers!

Rooh -ooh -ooh

So, Alaska is great. I love being home. I've been busy biking with my dad quite a bit, and yesterday i went to Sportsmans Warehouse and bought myself (with my mother's money) a pair of really really nice Asics for my birthday present. They are so plush. I think i'm going to test them out today on a little yog down to the highway and back (about 6 miles).

My boyfriend Allan is coming to visit tomorrow, and i'm really stoked for that. While he's up here I going to take him hiking the Butte, Hatchers, and maybe hike into Denali too. And we might try biking if he's up to it. He'll be here for a week and then it's back to job-hunting.

My family is moving at the end of June, we went and saw the house last night. It's got the same number of bedrooms as my house, but mine is quite a bit smaller, especially since my sister Katie and i will be sharing.

Goals for the Summer:
1. Bike up to Jovia/Fairbanks. It's about 300 miles, so i'm thinking in 3 days i can get there with my dad.
2. Just bike a lot in general.
3. Use my new shoes to go running at least once a week.
4. No mega-feasting. (I'm doing great so far)
5. Do some lifting at the gym and keep up with my core.
6. Blog all the time!
7. Unfortunately i won't have access to an erg, but i'm not going to let that stop me from making fitness a part of my identity.

So, the moral of this story is. I'm staying in shape, missing you all, and also if any of you want to drive/fly up to visit I am totally in. :D <3 threetard

5.21.2010

so far so good

I am sitting in my room listening to my housemates sing/play awesome music w/one guitar. Its making me miss the team aspect so much... phooo

I have been working RIDICULOUS amounts. I am almost catered out. I erged yesterday and it was really wierd being in the erg room by myself... besides that one erg experience I have ran and biked a lot. It is wierd balancing just work and excercise w/o any sort of homework aspect...

But yeah, I dont really have much to say, just thought about everyone and needed to say hi. <3

How's everyone doing?

5.17.2010

Goals?!

How did I miss those cookies from your dad, Jov?! DANG. I'm a little PB and Jel... hahaha. Oh well! =P

SO, my goals for the summer are vague right now, but I think when I get home they will be more concrete:
1) Run the Santa Monica Stairs once a week (they're these huge stairs that athletes and crazy people run to get/stay in shape)
2) Backpack with my Dad, maybe Half Dome in Yosemite?
3) Surf once a week
4) Work. (Get money, get paid)
5) Bike the whole Santa Monica Bike Path (to Torrance? 44 miles round trip? maybe?)
6) Sand runs
7) Ergggggggggggg
8) Blog. <3

p.s. training here at school is going really well! =]

GOALS!!!!!

I read somewhere that writing down your goals makes you like a whole lot more likely to accomplish them so I thought that maybe we should take this opportunity to say them here and then if others see what we want, then everyone can help motivate and blah blah blah :D
My goals for this summer are:
Complete a triathlon on my own
Midnight sun run (it's this big run, a 6K, every year in my town from 10 pm till 1 am) in under an hour
run chena ridge (it's the ridge I live on, basically a big up hill and gradual down hill over about 14 miles)
and of course the elusive consistent sub 2 min 2k :)

Anyway I really hope everyones finals are survivable. I managed to crawl through my math final, and now I'm one chem test away from a 3 hour flight to Alaska. If anyone is going my way before Mariah's amazing 2011 Alaska Expedition, just let me know because I will HOOK YOU UP.
Alright, I shall see everyone before I leave. Thats another goal plus my dad just sent cookies if anyone is starving just shoot me a text :)

Youtube List! Spring 2010

VITALLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION
As we all know as novices, Youtube has been a very influential presence when it comes to our team’s structure and tone. Therefore, I thought it might be a good idea to make a compilation of our most loved and quoted videos, and maybe this can be an “AH HA!” moment for coach too. ;] I’m sure she’s felt at least a little out of the loop this season as she watched our mimicking antics. So here they are and I hope they brighten your day! Erika: The quotes in bold are the ones that you definitely can’t miss out on. The rest are worth the time, but not as memorable.

Such a good plan Lindsay!

Well.... It's been about 24 hours since we last met as a team to say goodbye forever to Erika (hopefully not) and it hasn't really hit me yet that it's really over. All I can think of is next August/September when we are all reunited and how ecstatic it's going to be. I am already ready for those running hugs and screams we're all going to experience.
But! before I even think about getting into that magic realm we love where tears run freely (and a couple of puns thrown in here and there) I want to start with a big shout out to Lindsay, our team Mom and fearless leader. This is a fantastic idea and I hope it will keep us in contact and inspired to "keep fitness as part of our identity" (and augment facebook) over the summer. So THANK YOU Lindsay for being a role model for us and thank you everyone for investing so much in this team!

About this blog...

I think I might go into withdrawals if I don't have some form of mass communication and mass updates about what each of you incredible girls is doing this summer. People always say they'll keep in touch, and from experience, it takes effort from both sides; Ports and Starboards, power up. We're gonna keep in touch.
Update me, us, [the world?] on your antics, your emotions, your plans, your pitfalls, your triumphs, your pains, your pets, your siblings, your parental units, and your WORKOUTS! I want to know everything.

Post photos, post youtube videos (please!), and post quotes and wise shit you think of. Puns welcome, you know me.

Peace, Love, Rooh.
